As the United States urbanized, its citizens turned toward specific housing types for shelter such as the bungalow. A bungalow is a type of building that is detached and can have a single or second story. They are usually small. People communicated certain ideas in physical form about the bungalow. An idea they communicated about bungalows is that they are well suited for people with impaired mobility like elderly people in wheelchairs. Another idea they could have communicated is the privacy of bungalows. Neighborhoods of only bungalows have more privacy than two story house neighborhoods. Trees and shrubs are planted strategically to block the view of neighbors as depicted in this photo. The smaller space also requires less cleaning which is ideal for elder people.
